Another DS Spec (hopefully) environment, this time a cartoony kart racing track. Still needs lighting and probably a fair bit more polish but for now I’m leaving it and moving on to something else.
I recommend watching the animated run through over the rendered stills as it depicts how the stage should look from a players point of view if it were in an actual game.

Initially I wanted this scene to follow Nintendo DS specifications but on further research it turns out I may have used too much texture space for this.
Still learned a fair bit though and it was alot of fun too, although the final outcome isn’t as good as I had hoped for mainly because I have no idea how lighting would be done for the DS and need to research it so everything is 100% self illuminated.

Work in progress model of a plane / vehicle thing from the Japanese animation series “Bounen no Xamdou” by studio Bones, this plane is called the “Beat Kayak” and is a one person vehicle. There’s a reference image of it included in the enlarged image.
I am finding modelling this quite hard, first time I’ve done something complex model-wise like this, the main issues are just keeping the mesh and edge flow clean, making sure I don’t have any cuts that aren’t doing anything to the silohuette and keeping everything in quads. In the full image the model is being smoothed, I’ll be creating the high poly first and then working my way down to a low poly model.
Edit: 08/10/08 – Updated the full image to a more complete model, still got loads to do though.

Another quick prop, definitely going to revisit / rebuild this prop at a later date, not happy with the way it looks and the way I wasted UVW space in the end (ended up deleting some things at the end which had space on the uvw map)
Model consists of:
1,104 Triangles
1x 1024×1024 Diffuse Texture
1x 1024×1024 Specular Map
1x 1024×1024 Normal Map

Since University ended I decided to switch my domain name to something a little easier to remember, so I decided to go with alexluong.co.uk, pretty simple right? :) I’ve also made the switch to the Wordpress blog script which is much nicer to use and has many more functions than my previous blog script.
I look forward to keeping this place updated, more work to come!

1x 512×512 Diffuse Texture
1x 512×512 Specular Map
1x 512×512 Normal Map

A quick prop, just trying to improve my texturing. Not too happy with it but it looks alright, having quite a few problems trying to get metal to look like metal :(
Model consists of:
2,346 Triangles
1x 1024×1024 Diffuse Texture
1x 1024×1024 Specular Map

Did a quick 3D scene to get me back into the flow of things as I’ve been away from 3D work for quite awhile.
I was working off a concept which I found HERE by an artist called Reagan Lodge.
